Role card

Biographical information :

  • My life and history: My name is Eleonore Reis , and I was born in 1986, in the city of Talcuahano .Talcuahalano is located in the region of Bio-Bio in Chili. My family owns a small farm since 1956, and we mostly grow vegetables like: potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes and more..., We also have buffaloes, chickens and sheep's. My mom , Rosalie Reis, and my dad Bum Reis, have always consider this farm as family heritage. We sell our product to Santiago the capital of Chili, and we do this for a living. However , I always loved biology , and farming has never been my choice. Anyways, I do just like my parents consider our farm like a family heritage, but biology is my passion.

  • My personal jobs and experiences: Obviously I had always worked with my parents in our farm , i would fed the buffalo and the chickens.I would also plant potato's and lettuce's seeds.I also work twice a week in a laboratory in the domain of biology. We study the evolution and long term effect of GMF food in the human body. I used to work in laboratory in Santiago, but it have moved to an other city, Lota. It in the same region , were I live ,but I'm In a different laboratory now. Although, I was involved in a lot of comity's and community meetings, I don't have a lot of experiences other than farming and biology.

  • School: I studied in Pasadena in Texas for my high school years and then I came back to chili for University. I was in science program while I was in University, it was very hard. I really enjoyed studying in Texas, it was so much different from Chili.

  • Position statement: I was inform in one of our community meetings that a project Named Pascua Lama was accepted by the Chilean government. I also had the chance to ask all my question with on of the Barrick gold's member, a Canadian mining company. I'm totally for this project . First of all, if the Chilean government allowed this project in Chili why should I be against it? The government has always been preoccupied toward is people, they evaluated strictly the purpose and the consequences of this project. If my government is for the project, I will also be .

  • In second, The web is full of misleading statement and fears of the Chilean citizen. The project haven't start yet ,and there is more than 400 conditions regarding the approval of the project. The protection of ice fields and water resources is the ,main priority of the Chilean government and Barrick Gold.

  • Further more, The ice field will not bee destroyed, 95% of the gold is not under the ice field only 5% of it is under the ice fields. The protection of this 5% remaining, is a major key condition of the Chilean authorities approval of the project.

Final writing test.(Inherit the wind)

In 1925, Bertram Cates, a teacher from a Hillsboro was arrested and accused for teaching evolutionism.A certain sates law in Tennessee proclaimed that it was illegal to teach Charles's Darwin theory of evolution. In this religious town , only creationism was allowed and the bible was the only truth. Inherit the win is not about a battle between Creationism an evolutionism. It it not about who is right and who is wrong. The Freedom of speak, right and think always come with a high price and consequence. The play opposes two main themes : the freedom of thought vs , fundamentalism.Obviously , the famous <> of 1925, opposed evolutionism and creationism. However, if we take an closer look at the ultimate goal of the play, could we say that Inherit the wind opposes justice to morality? If the human rights were on trial in the play, it is because Hillsboro was a religious town ,intolerant to morality, freedom of thought and individuality . Inherit the win should win the award for the best play of the year.

First the play shows us that justice has no place in a religious society. This small city of Hillsboro rejected all the contemporary thoughts, they had a laws against creationism. The people of Hillsboro lived by the bible and considered themselves totally religious. The bible was the only guide line that could guide their lives.Bertram Cates was accused of teaching creationism and proclaiming immoral things.Although He was only questioning himself on life and the world , he was treated like traitor or a monster by his own community. Moreover, the play also showed that justice in the play was on trial. The court room who was supposed to be neutral , had a huge sign on the wall who said<<>>. That sign already showed to everybody that Cates was going to loose the trial. In a high religious court room where even the judge takes position on you, how can you possibly win?Henry Drummond who is Cate's lawyer is mistaking for the devil by the people of Hillsboro. He is a former lawyer from Chicago and automatically accuses the court room to favor creationism and religious. Also the court room privileged Brady the religious lawyer of Hillsboro, to over win on Drummond. When Drummond tries to used his 15 experts has witnesses the judges and Brady disallowed him. They also disallowed him to use the book of Charles Darwin has prove. The courtroom disallow all his proves even though his prove are the only help he has.Like its not enough, they tell him he could only use the bible.
Justice is definitely on trial, and that's what makes the play reflective

In second, the plays shows that morality and freedom of thought have been for a long time impersonal. Drummond knows that he is affront of a crowd that only believes in the bible. The bible is only a way to explain life, it like philosophy or science. Drummond tries to make them understand that they need to see further. When Drummond calls Brady on affront of the court , we realise that Brady cannot think by himself.Brady cannot make a personal opinion on anything, he always relies on the bible. Drummond tries to make him understand that evolutionism is only a theory that proclaims a constant evolution of species and humans being.Furthermore, Drummond accused Brady of being cunning, manipulative and not enough open minded. Brady said that Charles Darwin theory was nothing, it was devilish , but he never read it. How can someone place such a statement on something he know nothing a bout. Brady never wrote the anything about evolutionism and he doesn't want too, and that his right. What is not right, is to place such a judgmental statement on something you know nothing about.

On the one hand, Drummond places Brady in a funny position when he makes every body realizes that Brady is vulnerable.Brady actually think that the bible is real, that all the miracles and stories which are written in the bible are real. The bible is only on of the many ways that explains life. Most of the stories in it are untruth. When people in the court room realizes Brady weakness, Drummond wins over Brady's credibility. On the other hand , Drummond is not against the bible, he he just against fundamentalism. He even said, that God gives us the possibility to think by ourselves, so we should use our own head.He wants to make the court room understand that Cates was only asking himself question , and that there is nothing wrong with it. Drummond tries to make Hillsboro's citizen that evolutionism is not devilish, it a theory. You need faith in religious like you need critical and individual thinking in science. Science permitted many technological progress, and it has nothing to do with religious. So is science bad? Drummond tries to makes the court room that their are many different sciences ,and they are all useful.

In conclusion, Inherit the wind is a reflexion on the freedom of though, on individuality and justice.Obviously we could there was many others themes, but the outstanding one is the Freedom of thought. Religion is just one sphere of influences on many others. Evolutionism is a scientifically proven theory and Creationism is a religious theory.Inherit the wind is a very strong criticize on our previous society, and it also makes us reflect on the individual rights of toady's generation..

Mid term writing test

There are many psychological illnesses diagnosed every year among the north Americans population. Phobia is one of the most complex and common mental problem among the others. A phobia is an intense, an irrational and also a persistent fear of something. This psychological illness has been stereotyped and it is commonly misunderstood.People generally say that they have a phobia without really knowing what it is. So my partner and have decided to talk about phobia as a psychological illness . In the following text you will read about what is a phobia; its characteristics, our method, our results and our final comments.

To begin, my partner and I decided to make a survey on phobias because we though that younger person age 18-30 had less knowledge on phobias.A person can only be diagnosed of phobia if his fear is unreasonable and persistent, even if the object of his fear is not around.A phobia is a really complex mental illness and we cannot blithely say that we have one. However, my partner and I choose for our thesis statement that younger people had less basic and also general knowledge on psychological oiliness such has phobias. In order to prove that our statement was true we created two groups of people. The first group contained people aged 18 to 30, and the second one people aged 30 and over. We based our criteria on ages and both of our respondents were either males or females. We though that age was one of the most important factor of knowledge.
Even though There are others important factors the age seemed to be the best options for us, the age factor makes ans important distinction.

In second, our result was quite a schock, we seriously underestimated the first group, people age 18to 30. My partner and I created questions that were very understandable for both groups. The first question was <>. 50% of the respondents answered that a phobia was a mental illness and that it could be treated by medication. That answer was the one we less expected of them but it is the good answer. An other 25% answered that phobia could be transmitted by heredity which is totally true.So in order to raise the challenge, we created question on phobia's treatment. Question number 5 was a multiple choice question on a man who had a phobia about dog. We placed 4 statements that our respondents could used and 100% of all our respondent in this group choose the same answer. They all choose answer number 3 , which was to start gradually by showing the picture of a dog than a real dog, in order to cure a person. This treatment use association techniques and is were effective, it was also the answer that we wanted to collect. Moreover, the results of the second group was not surprising at all, we collected the answer that we anticipated. For the same questions, in question number 1 75% of all respondent answered that phobias was caused by a disfonctionment in the brain. An other 25% answered that phobia was caused by heredity. And for question number 5 , 50% choose that the best option to cure a man who had a phobia about dogs have chosen answer number 4. This possible answer suggest that the person with a phobia should face his fear until he defeats it. And the other 50% have chosen answer number 3 , the same answer that the first group took.

In third, my partner and I have underestimated group number one , people age 18 to 30, we though that they did not have a lot of knowledge on phobias. When we written our thesis statement, we had in mind that phobias was to stereotyped and misunderstood. It is true that we all have fears however a person with phobia becomes extremely anxious when he is placed affront of the object of is fear and even when he is not placed affront of it. For instance , my partner and I knew already a lot on phobias and psychological illnesses. We both knew the particular characteristic of a person with phobias and the factors. In the survey, most of the possible answers were true. A phobia can be caused by internal and external events such as a trauma, heredity and genetics factors. People with phobias can also be cured by association techniques and many others treatment involve medication. So every possible answer were true even though we modified the answer in order to get a more affective and precise result. Somehow, younger people did have enough of basic knowledge on phobia and psychological illnesses. For many reasons , younger people have and easy access to documentation and information. Internet which is the easiest way to access and collect information's all around the world , must be the biggest factor in this accessibility. Although the responses from group number two was the one we expected, our thesis was mislead. We should have not only considered the age factor, we should have also considered the technical evolution factor.

In conclusion, The reason why we decided that phobia would be our topic presentation, was that my partner and I had a lot of knowledge on phobias.Overall, we though that phobia was a misunderstood psychological illness among the younger people.Well , phobia is a misunderstood psychological illness because many people blithely talk about common phobias. However our thesis was mislead because we took the age factor to base our thesis statement.Obviously we considered only one main aspect in our survey, we should have considered the technical evolution and also the Internet factor. Internet is very useful, it is a very fast way to access documentation on almost everything. Some people were born while Internet was being widespread. Our respondents in group number one were mostly young people born with Internet in their houses, and they access to it almost every day.We should have consider the technical evolution factor to place our decision and to base our thesis.
